A Lady Athlete Running Towards a Calling in Medicine

This small town saw the arrival of this young girl back in 1984, and she brimmed with great dreams of becoming a runner that will compete in the Olympics one day. In just the span of four years, her amazing greenish brown eyes have already seen a lot. She was able to attain sixth place in the Seoul Korea Olympics held in 1988 for the women’s 3,000 meter run. And last December, this world class runner finally graduated from school. Since she was already considered the next queen of American middle distance running at a young age of 23, she easily bagged a three year contract to endorse a famous company that manufactures shoes. This young girl from Delaware chose to stay where she is for the moment. She uses her regular workouts to see the environs of her school. Flying to her own finish line at 5 foot 6 and 110 pounds, this superstar makes sure that her feet barely touch the ground she runs on. People seek her autograph wherever she goes, but fame makes her fidgety. This humble athlete shares that she wants no special treatment for she states that she is just a normal girl.

As normal as she is, she is certainly not average. She was the first lady to ever become an Olympian in their town. She’s an important part of seven world record relay groups as well as a proud holder of four prestigious American collegiate awards. At school, she led her team, capturing eight individual NCAA championship titles and 14 Big East championship titles. She has also bagged tons of major honors.

She and her track mentor from school are carefully planning out her running career now that she is out of collegiate competition. It’s a big change with a lot of mental adjustments to make. People will only understand if they’ve been through such depths. She really struggles through a sea of pressure to be a successful runner, but it is her own self that exerts that pressure on her. One qualm she has is sustaining any injuries while being bound by the three year contract she has with the famous shoe manufacturing firm. She’s become more apprehensive now than during the competitions she’s been in the past for there are greater expectations from her. This site teaches you about medical recruitment agency.

They keep asking if the local women’s track team still run without her. She guarantees that they can for their one great team. The notoriety, the pressures, and responsibilities make her value her privacy. Her family, from her parents and siblings had to adjust to being known as her parents, brother and sister. Though her parents were supportive, they were never pushy for they were also laid back.

You would be surprised and envious of the company she keeps, thanks to her stardom. She is close to a group of athletes known to be the cream of the crop and whom we all idolize and follow on the TV screen. While she does name drop, this is without any hints of pretention since she has nothing but true affection and concern for these great people that share with her a common link. As an example, when she arrived from Hawaii last June to be on tour with another runner, she blurts that it was the last Olympic Games when she saw him last. It was great to spend three days with him, talk about old times, and have fun.

While she admits that she’s got more time than she wants to have, she still hasn’t run out of stuff to do. More than just practicing daily to become better as a runner, she is also a public figure and this calls for her to make sure that she is on top of her busy schedule which involves gracing various banquets, track meets, interviews or photo sessions. She is also one generous lady who would like to give back by offering her precious talent and time to become a volunteer assistant track coach at their town’s local school.

She hopes to volunteer in an area hospital, in keeping with the medical career she put on hold. Certainly, this will help this former premed and psychology major determine if she should still get into a medical career when she is done with her professional running career. How does she perceive her life in the near future? While she reveals that she would love to become a mother and wife that will only be after her successful career as a runner is established. She shares that her priorities are her goals and dreams first.
